Family Fun During Christmas Vacation

December 29, 2016

Well, well, well. It’s the holiday vacation and the kids are in the house for over a week. Family is visiting from out of town. You’re looking for different ways to let the kids have fun while they’re out of school. If possible, don’t let the kids stay in the house all week because they get cabin fever just like we as adults get it. They need fresh air, and to release the energy they build up. They need to run around, play, sweat, laugh, eat, and make new friends, and learn new things. There are a ton of things you can do to stimulate their minds and well as get some physical exercise going too. Here are a list of ideas that maybe you can look up to see if it’s feasible. With holidays just passing, discounted activities would greatly be appreciated.
-Library
-Arcade (like Dave & Busters)
-Aquarium
-Sporting Event
-Snow activities (if near them)
-Roller Skating
-Ice Skating
-Bowling
-Movies
-Museum
-Empire State Bldg.
Some at home things you can do that don’t cost a thing is to have a game night at home. Playing games that stimulate the mind are good such as Scrabble, Monopoly, etc. Even getting some popcorn and snacks and pick out a few good movies to watch at home always works as well. You can’t ask a child to do it, you kinda say “At 7pm, we’re gonna watch movies”. I find that when I ask my 19 year old if she wants to do something she is more apprehensive than when I tell her what we’re doing. We order pizza and snacks and watch 1-2 movies at a time. Spending quality time together is important to keep family structure. Have cooking contests at home too. It has two effects. It teaches the child to be creative and be self-sufficient. It’s fun to do and whoever made the best meal wins. Doing things out of the ordinary keeps things fun. If you don’t have a ton of money and want a quick getaway, book your local hotel with a pool and go stay for 2 nights. As long as there is a pool, it feels like a quick getaway and everyone has a good time.
These were just a few things i could think of to have a little fun while the kids are home. Once school starts again, you go back to the same daily routine and sometimes there isn’t room for extracurricular activities. Feel free to make any suggestions…
